I Survived a 3 Day Juice Cleanse

I am not new to juicing. Last year I purchased my very first juicer and I love the creations that I come up with when I use it. It is, however, a huge pain to clean and that is the #1 reason I don’t use it as often as I’d like. However, I’ve never had any experience with completely replacing food with juice…until now.

THE BEGINNINGsujabox
One day last week, I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and an ad for Suja popped up promoting a sale on their 3-day cleanse, saving more than $50 on the usual price!

I was slightly familiar with Suja. Last summer, I completed my first marathon in San Diego. Suja was the main sponsor of the event and passed out many samples of their juices at the event expo. I remember liking most of them and I jumped at the chance to get their 3 day cleanse on sale. I had been toying with the idea of making my own juices, pinning recipes and what not. But I figured this would save A LOT of time and only cost slightly more. My juices arrived at my door on a Friday. I decided to start on Monday, since I didn’t have to work. All weekend long I was excited

PREPARATION
I have done enough research on juicing to know that jumping into a juice cleanse without any preparation is a bad idea and can lead to some unpleasant side effects (headaches, moodiness, etc). I recently started a 60 Paleo Challenge, so most of the bad food was already out of my system. No energy drinks, no diet soda, gallon of water a day, lots of veggies. The only thing I really changed in the few days leading up to the start was cutting out meat from almost every meal. I was actually so excited that I started early. I bought an extra juice from Publix and had one for dinner on Sunday night!

SUPPORT
Due to working at Beast Athletics, I am very lucky that I have an awesome support system of fellow healthy eaters around at all times. Additionally, my friend/Godsister 200 miles away did the cleanse at the same time!! There were a few times during the 3 days where I was struggling and would send out a text or a Snapchat and would recive immediate support that reminded me why I was doing it in the first place. It was definitely a life saver!

THE JUICES
fresh-start-classic-productGlow, Fuel, Purify, Fiji, Green Supreme, and Vanilla Cloud. 6 juices to be spaced out every 2-3 hours throughout my day. As I said before, I am no stranger to drinking juices and I am used to the flavor of fresh juices but if you are new to juicing, it could throw you off. I can honestly say I did love them all. My absolute favorite one was the Green Surpreme. I looked forward to it each day!

Also, the juices were huge. According to the nutrtition facts on the back, there are 2 servings in each bottle. Each one took me nearly 30 minutes to finish!

FATIGUE
One thing I wasn’t expecting was being so tired!! I napped all three days! I am not a napper and I usually have plenty of energy to get through the day. On the 2nd day I even took a 3 hour nap, woke up to drink my last juice, and went right back to sleep for 10 HOURS!!

WORKING OUT
I had plans to work out all three days. But due to the fatigue and “accidental” napping, it didn’t work out that way. I did go to hot yoga on the first day. I got dizzy and lightheaded a couple times during the class but took a break for water whenever I needed to. If I had worked out the other two days, I wouldn’t have performed my best. It was actually reccommended to me to not work out, though I know others who have and been fine.

HUNGER
I actually wasn’t as hungry as I thought I’d be. The first day was the weirdest. I felt like I couldn’t go anywhere or do anything because food was everywhere. I basically just steered clear of most of the temptation. I did think about food a lot though, but that’s really nothing new. I was mostly hungry about 30 minutes before I was supposed to have my next juice.

avocadosFOOD
I did eat something during the 3 days. On the first day, about an hour before I knew I was going to hot yoga, I ate half an avocado. And then on the morning of the third day I ate the other half of that avocado when I knew I would be going about 4-5 hours between juices due to work. I knew my body was going to need it, and it did!

COLD
Drinking cold juices all day when the weather was slightly cold (for Florida, at least), I was cold ALL THE TIME. I was not ready for that and wore a hoodie for most of the 3 day period

WEIGHT LOSS
I started this juice cleanse with the intention of pushing myself over a weight loss plateau. I can happily say I did it! Over the course of 3 days, I lost a total of 4 pounds!

FUTURE CLEANSES
I would and plan on doing a juice cleanse again! I do have a scheduled cheat day coming up during this Paleo Challenge, so it will likely happen soon after that. At the end of the 3 days, I felt like I could easily go another few days!

SUMMARY

I felt amazing after just the 1st day and on top of the world by day 3!  I feel like it has more to do with eating absolutely zero processed foods than with the juices themselves.  It has given me the boost I needed to kill the rest of this 60 Day Paleo Challenge!!

Girls Night Out & Safety Harbor

For the first time in a while I actually got dressed up and went out on the town with my gym buddies. Dinner and dancing with some of my favorite girls. We had a pretty good time. No drunken drama. No boy-related issues. No stress.

Friends

I had been told many times over the years to rid myself of the negative/difficult/stressful people in my life. Until recently, I was terrfied to do so. It’s been about two months now since I’ve rid myself of three of those people. They were people who I was sure I’d be close to for the rest of my life. But through various situations, they have been banished from my life and I have never felt more free, more loving, more happy. I am so lucky to be surrounded with beautiful friends. Friends who empower. Friends who speak positively of others. Friends who inspire each other daily. I don’t know how I had friendships/relationships that were any other way.

Last night, after all the dancing, I ended up at my boyfriends house to spend the night. And this morning we decided on a little adventure. We visited downtown Safety Harbor. A small town that I haven’t been to in at least 10 years, maybe more.

Safety Harbor, FL

I fell in love. It’s quaint and cute. A perfect place to run, bike, read, and write. We just ate and walked around. But I was already excited to go back before I had even left. I was jealous of everyone we past who was running. It was a pretty perfect area for that. Planning on a return visit sometime this week, I hope. I only ran once this week so I need to squeeze in an extra run or two this week.

Well, off to work I go. Here’s hoping for an easy Sunday evening…
