Running: A Love Letter

Dear Running,

A quick Google search should tell you that there are plenty of people who want to know all the signs to look for to confirm they’ve found “The One.” They say there is really no special formula for knowing. But I know, without a shadow of a doubt, You Are My Soulmate. So, on this Valentine’s Week, and a little after our 4 year anniversary, I wanted to let you know why you’re the perfect one for me. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

1 I loved you before I met you. I dreamt about you and all the ways we’d make each other better. I still remember the time we finally officially met, that one afternoon at the gym. There were lots of people around and I was scared. But you were ok with me taking it slow.

2 You’re always there for me. Bad days, good days. The sun and the rain. You’ve seen me at my best and my worst. No matter if I’m drenched in sweat, out of breath, dirty and tired, I always feel like the strongest, most determined woman in the world because of you.

3 You accept me for who I am. You don’t try to change me, but you make me want to be a better person. I want to impress you, but I know I’m always enough for you. You challenge me in the best possible ways.

4 We’ve survived a long-distance relationship. It was hard and scary, sacrifices were made. We made it through with a just a few bumps and bruises and became stronger than ever.

5 I feel comfortable planning a future with you. I know that when I book that trip with you a year from now, you’ll still be with me. We’re not breaking up.  I know we’re in it for life.

6 I always miss you when we’re apart.  If we spend more than a couple days apart, it makes me feel like I’m missing a piece of myself.

7 We have a bond that many people don’t understand. Turning down Saturday night get-togethers because we have a long Sunday morning planned has gotten me plenty of crazy looks.  But it’s worth it every time.

8 I can talk about you all day. You’re a part of most of my stories.  The conversation somehow always leads back to you.  There is always something new I want to share about you.

9 You always take me back.  As an independent lady, I sometimes I need space.  Some days I just want to be left alone.  98% of the time it has nothing to do with you, but I get mentally and physically exhausted from time to time.  When I come back around, you always welcome me back with open arms. No questions asked.

10 I don’t feel obligated to be with you. It is my pleasure, even on the worst of days, to have you in my life. You’ve exponentially changed my life and I couldn’t be more grateful. Getting to know you is a never-ending journey and I look forward to spending many more beautiful years together.

So thank you, Running.  We are in it for the long haul.  You are my lifelong partner and I couldn’t be more blessed to have such a supportive companion by side.  Happy Valentine’s Day! XOXO <3

Love Always,

~ Jen
